CCA Andratx cordially invites you to the opening next Thursday February, 13th at 7pm

The CCA Andratx is pleased to present the first solo show in Spain by British artist resident in London, Diana Taylor (1977, UK). While staying at the CCA Artist-in Residence Program in November of 2012, Taylor produced a striking series of multi layered and multi coloured paintings and collages, which we gladly present.

The series "Wonders of the System", made up of these two bodies of work, is based on the idea of interference. By developing a variety of images, many of which are sourced via Google searched and by montaging these with modern life icons, the works become deeply organized systems; we may look at the chaotic, but not at Chaos.

Intrinsic to Taylor’s painting is the process of abstraction of ornament and architectural decay as a direct result of nature, forming new meanings in the reconfigurations of fragments. Her particular working methodology by erasing or even “un-painting”, give as a result a very personal artistic language which leads us on a journey through the physical and historical inviting us to question our position and status in a modern world full of interferences that affect us.

The all-pervading nature of Internet stock images and clip art, and the decline of print and published materials are essential for the exploration of notions of time and loss, and which Taylor embodies through the use of traditional materials: oil painting and screen printing and needlework.

Diana Taylor obtained her MFA at the Slade School of Fine Art in London (2010). She was awarded the Abbey Scholarship in Painting, at the British School at Rome (2011). Her work has been shown in numerous international exhibitions, among which we highlight: Solo shows: ‘Alpha Beta’, R O O M, London (2011); ‘Climbing, Falling’, Intervention Gallery, London (2010). Group shows: ‘Carousel’, Aspex Gallery, Portsmouth (2013); ‘Collaborators 3’, R O O M, London (2012); The Royal Academy, London; Volta 7 Basel; ‘Fountains and Drains’, British School at Rome, Rome (2011) and ‘Hybird’, VITRINE gallery, London (2011).
